The New Year always brings in a fresh air of new beginnings, new inspirations and new goals. If you’re like us then you probably spent the last few days of 2015 making lists and vision boards and setting intentions for a prosperous and successful New Year. While its great to get into the mindset of being productive early in the year, its also equally important to remember to have fun, relax and recharge your spirit.

We’ve found that one of the best ways to wind down in between dream-chasing is curling up in a cozy blanket and getting lost in a good book. Instead of binging on Netflix series or going out for a few cocktails every weekend (or everyday 👀), using your spare time to read not only relaxes you, but it keeps your mind sharp and stimulated, which are both necessary in order to be successful in any of your pursuits.

Over the years we have collected everything from cook books to page-turning novels to inspirational reads and as we rearrange our bookcase we thought we should share a few of our recent faves with you guys.

If You Have To Cry Go Outside by Kelly Cutrone (Founder of People’s Revolution)

If you were a fan of Lauren Conrad’s MTV show The Hills, then you may recognize the face of her boss on the show: the bada$$, PR Gawd Kelly Cutrone. In her very “colorful” autobiography, she details her wild journey into fashion’s “Hall of Fame” and offers her no-BS approach to inspire young women seeking success in a world that can be very cutthroat. She has a reputation of being very outspoken (and intimidating), but its clearly done her some good as she has become one of the most successful people in her industry. This is perfect for all the fearlessly ambitious Power Women who live life by slaying first and taking names last. 💅🏾

From beginning to end, this book provides gems upon gems that women everywhere can relate to and apply to their lives. “Living well while living it up,” what more does a girl need?

If you’ve been contemplating finally quitting your job and chasing your dreams, then you might be a few steps closer to the door after reading this. The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren

What on Earth are we here for? If you are looking embark on a new spiritual journey, this book will help you look within yourself to discover your true purpose in life. Sounds super deep right? Well it is. You are here for a reason and this book is recommended for anyone who seeks guidance and self-awareness because in order to be happy, you must know and live your truth. This is a good book to keep on hand and re-visit whenever you need it. Fact of the matter is, no one has it all figured out and we could all use a little guidance from time to time.

Reading is fundamental (had to say it) and if you haven’t already, we suggest you begin investing in building your personal collection. Whenever we’re in the mood for a new book to read, the public library is usually our go-to: they’re free, convenient, and typically have great selections from national best-sellers to hidden gems. Another great place to snag some great reads is the thrift store. Of course, we’re no strangers to thrifting for unique threads, but we’ve clearly been sleeping on the book section, SMH! You can literally choose from hundreds of books–mostly very random, but interesting nonetheless–and they’re usually priced around $2.00 or less. Super clutch!
